Exploring Bohol on Two Wheels

It’s amazing where two wheels + fitness can take you. I was supposed to simply fly to Cebu to support Energen Run when my friend Rashell who was currently based in Cebu presented an idea on why not bike in Bohol as well. That’s how this biking adventure began.

First challenge was to get my bike to Cebu, last Ironman 70.3 Philippines I got my bike disassembled and boxed for the trip, but I have to admit that re-assembling it again in Cebu is such a hassle, until I learned that PAL allows you to check-in your entire bike!

So I took this chance to try it out, protected my bike with bubble wraps and layers of tape. Amazingly PAL attendants seems to be very familiar with this process, I was able to check-in my bike without a problem. All it cost me was additional P350 for additional baggage allowance (done during online ticket booking), and the best thing is, my bike arrived in one piece.

Got the opportunity to drop The Brick bicycle store in Ayala IT Park in Cebu together with my friend Rashell, met Filipino elite XTERRA champion Joseph Lumagod Miller heard inspiring stories and got a free tune-up as well, thank you again guys! Then we’re all set for Bohol.

We took the 6:00AM OceanJet Fastcraft to Bohol, costs P500 one way + additional P160 for the bike, the boat ride takes around 2 hours, then we’re all set to start riding at 8AM beginning at the Tagbilaran Port.

We charted a bike course from Tagbilaran Port to Chocolate Hills, approximately 62KM passing through Baclayon, Loboc Chuch, Bohol Manmade Forest, and finally Chocolate Hills. We’re also fortunate enough that Rashell has a friend in Bohol that’s willing to ride with us, thank you Jemuel Madanguit for your time.

And finally, the Chocolate Hills (still green)

Being able to ride to the Chocolate Hills compared to hiring a van gave more life to the journey, the stop-over, the water refills in the different towns enables you to really see the lives of the local people. It also makes you appreciate the local scenery more and made the fresh buko juice at the top of the Hill taste sweeter :D

Time to get fit and explore guys!
