TIGASIN TRIATHLON: Ang Tagisan ng mga TIGASIN

The much anticipated Tagisan ng mga Tigasin concluded last May 14, 2016 at El Pescador Resort and Hotel in Bolinao, Pangasinan. Tigasin Triathlon consists of two distance categories: the sprint distance (750m swim – 20km bike – 5km run) and 51.5 km distance (1.5km swim – 40km bike – 10km run). Only the most Tigasin triathletes were able to conquer the race course. On its second year, Tigasin Triathlon attracted various types of triathletes from the best to the starters, everyone surely belonged in the community.
Prior to the race proper, participants and guests were treated the day before by a short yet fun program at El Pescador Resort and Hotel followed by the carbo-loading dinner before the participants get their much needed sleep. On the race day itself, participants were ready to conquer the race course starting with the first wave’s gun start at 6:00am and the second until the last wave’s gun start with 5 minutes interval in between each wave. The swim course at Guiguiwanen beach was followed by the scenic bike and run course that stretched from Guiguiwanen beach to the Anda bridge and ends at El Pescador Resort and Hotel. The 2nd Tigasin Triathlon gathered a total of 278 participants with notably big names such as elite triathlete LC Langit, Philippine National Triathlon team member John Lester Chicano, and foreign triathletes husband and wife duo Jose Leal and Erica Dueger.
The overall category winners were led by John Leerams Chicano (2:13:19) of Team Sinag Pilipinas and Vicky Deldio (2:37:58) of the Yellow Cab-Tri Clark team in the 51.5 km distance category. On the other hand, Rafael Tayag (1:16:27) of the Yellow Cab-Tri Clark team and Veronica Deldio (1:26:11) both emerged on top in the Sprint distance category. For the relay categories, the Team Extra Rice dominated the 51.5 km distance with a time of 3:18:47, while in the Sprint distance, Team MDCCI came to a strong first place finish with the time of 1:17:13. For the team awards, team Podium Botique Hotel Baguio emerged as the winner in the Sprint distance category while team Sante Barley emerged victorious in the Standard distance category. Team Trimac registered the most number of participants, giving them the award for most number of team members participating at the event.
Everyone excitedly participated in the games, awarding ceremonies and post-race lunch. The event was hosted by Philippine Rugby Volcanoes member Chris Everingham and PBA court side reporter, Sports5Broadcaster and Host Erika Padilla. The 2nd Tigasin Triathlon was attended by around 350 participants, guests, marketing and media partners.
